supplies:
worsted weight yarn preferably 2 colors
or what ever you like to use.
size G hook & size F hook
3- 5 buttons
tapestry needle for sewing your tails in
the circumference of a newborns waist is around 15 inches " so i figure out what size hook with get me to 15 inches or around there with chain 55 smile emoticon .. i started with an E hook then worked up to a G hook " so a G hook it is..... Chain 55 with a G hook
then i join the chain into a circle like so " .. make sure your chain is * flat side on the inside of the circle and make sure it stays straight " I learned this pattern way from O.V.W on youtube " she is really great
what crocheting into the bump does for us is, it creates a seamless start and then we can add the waist line to our fishing overalls much easier
next .. after you have worked your way back and have done 55 double crochets slip stitch to join - chain up 2 chains " then start to double crochet into every stitch ( V ) stitch until you reach the end again and slip stitch to join and keep doing this until you have a total of 6 rows of double crochet stitches
once you reached the 6 rows of double crochet it is time to start making the first leg " smile emoticon you are going to count how many stitches you have and divide in half so if you have say 54 stitches you will slip stitch into the last stitch you slipped stitched into- and the half way point together .... this will start to make a leg hole - now from your slip stitch chain up two and start to double crochet around to the starting double crochet " slip stitch into the first at the end and chain up two again and start your second row of leg one... make 8 rows of double crochets
to make the second leg of your newborn fishing overalls " slip stitch at the crotch and chain up 3 - then start to make a double crochets in each - work another 7 rows for a total of 8 rows - and tie off ... work in tails
now we are going to add the second color or add the waist and end of pant legs - i am using a darker green and a lighter green - slip stitch into the place where you have been starting and ending all along.. and do a single crochet in each stitch around
next chain up two and double crochet into same as chain up two - now we will make a front post / back post double crochet all the way around when you reach the end of that - we slip stitch into the last and chain up on then make a half double crochet into each to finish the waist - tie off and sew in all ends
The bottom of the legs is simply a single crochet around once tie in ends looks nice so far ... right ? smile emoticon
now i'll make a cargo pocket for my overalls - i am starting with chaining 13 then making 12 - 13 rows of single crochet ( chain one up at end of each row and turn work then go back across - on your last row of your 12- 13,... single crochet into the back loop only this one row and work across - chain up one and start to make one single crochet decrease at the start of the row and also at the end of each row until you have only two stitches left ( this is making the pocket flap ) once you reach 2 single crochet left start to slip stitch all the way around loosely so the work dose not bunch up - if you need it make an extra stitch or two at the corners to keep your work flat- when you have reached back to the first slip stitch tie off and leave a long long tail to sew pocket onto the pant leg
starting your strap "( using an F HOOK here) after adding buttons to the front - i pinched the pants together and along the length opposite of the button i slip stitched into the back top and single crochet 4 across...
I have sewn in my little tail from my work and clip that off after i crocheted my 4 - then i chain up 47 and i have about 11 1/2 inches for my strap .. crochet a double crochet into the 3rd chain from the hook and start to double all the way back to the top of the pants
when you have filled all your double crochets then slip stitch into number 4 single crochet you made at the start .. then turn the around and single crochet back up one side only of the strap
when you reach back to the top tie off but leaving a nice long tail to sew in - it should look like this and then just make a second strap then same way
starting second strap - flip your overalls to the back and find the 4 stitches opposite of your button again and slip stitch into your work and single crochet 4 and start to chain up 47 again
And here is a sweet pattern for a fishing hat you can make with these overalls
